Let's save some energy!

Did you know, that by simply replacing a couple of light bulbs in your house, you could save more than $100 in energy costs a year? Lighting accounts for about 20% of a home's electric bill. By switching to a CFL bulb, you could reduce greenhouse gases and save energy and money! Mom is a great example. She has already replaced most of her light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs. Danny and I are doing the same. I know, I sound like an advertisement, or a PSA announcement, but I feel that it's important. At Wal-Mart, you can buy a 6-pack of bulbs for only about $10. Those six bulbs could end up saving you around $200 in energy savings a year. I think that's a pretty good investment. With a baby on the way, Danny and I have been trying to find ways to save money, and this is one way that we're doing it. I challenge everyone in the family to replace AT LEAST one light bulb in your home. If you've already done it, good for you!

John and I are one step ahead of you! We replaced most of our lights with those kind, I think at least. They're the same kind mom uses, but now I can't remember if they're the same ones or not! And I caught a lucky break with a guy at church. He's starting a radiant barrier company and wants me to do a logo for him. And in exchange he's going to blow insulation in our attic, which we DESPARATELY need! We have about 4" up there now... Good advice though, Melinda! The bulbs burn cooler too, which keeps it more comfortable all around.

Great, Missy! You have a guy at church who does radiant barriers? There's a house across the street that has it and it sold for $15,000 more than other houses just like it, simply because they had a radiant barrier. I would love to have that!

Yeah, he's not doing a radiant barrier for us, unfortunately, but he is doing the radiant barrier insulation that the put underneath it. I'm hoping it actually pans out. This guys is sort of an "idea of the month" sort of guy so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have always said if we ever had a house built we'd add it because I hear it works and it really does increase the value of your house. And it looks like aluminum foil! Weird!

I'm having a hard time jumping on the flourescent bulb bandwagon. They seem to hurt my eyes... but maybe I'm using the wrong kind. I will repent and change my ways.

Brian and I looked into radiant barrier. No way we can afford it right now, but maybe later???

Thanks for the tip. This info comes at a good time as I need to buy bulbs next time I go to the store.

Okay, I'm on the go-green bandwagon for light bulbs. Just don't limit me to one square of toilet paper!

Mandie, they make a warm colored light bulb that's less harsh than the ones Mom uses. Look for those! The "cold" ones REALLY hurt my eyes. We had to take some back to Wal-Mart!
