Concern

Should I be concerned if Anna's 1st Grade teacher sends out an e-mail that says: "where your tennis shoes on Thursday"?

Ha ha!

I think we'd all be surprised at the things that happen in schools these days. I, myself, and finding that out more and more after just two weeks here!

Better yet, should you email back and tell her of her mistake?

I vote resoundingly YES! That is sad. She is a teacher for goodness sake! I know we all make mistakes but that seems pretty elementary... in a matter of speaking.

Reminds me of the time James went to fix a computer in a classroom and two teachers were arguing about the shape of a stop sign. One said it was a pentagon, the other said it was a hexagon. They wouldn't listen to the kid who said it was an octagon.

Makes me nervous.

Sadly, this is all too common. Some of the Livejournal communities I look at that deal with grammar (most people post funny signs, etc.), some of the posts are similar to this, where students/parents get a note/e-mail from their teachers and there are spelling/grammar mistakes. I will say, sometimes, when composing personal emails, I may type something like this, then go back and change it to the correct word. And my blog does have typos -- even though there is a spell check function. Ah, well.

Morgan's been correcting her substitute with spelling and pronounciation all year long. Ugh!!!

If she's otherwise a good teachers, don't worry about it--we all make mistakes. After all, she does have the good sense to make your child student of the month!

You have to remember that most people didn't spell check their mothers newspaper when they were kids like we did. I just hope that it was an honest flub and she really knows how to use that word properly.
