Ketchup Connoisseur

Yesterday, when I gave Tommy his hot dog, I put Hunts ketchup on his plate instead of Heinz. He took a bite, and refused to eat any more of the ketchup. He went straight to the fridge and got out the Heinz bottle and insisted that I put it on his plate. I thought that was strange, so I tried the Hunts again today, but this time I didn't let him see me put it on his plate. The results were the same! Who would have thought that a 3-year-old would have a ketchup preference?

Good taste! I HATE Hunts also. I think it's too tomatoey.

It's KETCHUP. It's made from TOMATOES!

I just don't like what color Hunts is. But really, I love tomatoes and ketchup, no matter what kind!

Amazing! I am also an exclusive Heinz eater.

You should conduct an experiment. Put Hunts in a Heinz bottle and see if he'll eat it. I read online they did an experiment by putting McDonald's food in two types of packaging, plain and the regular McD's packaging. Every kid said the stuff in the McD's packaging tasted better, even though it was the same food! So I wonder if it's the bottle or the actual ketchup. I'm obviously overthinking this....

That reminds me of Amanda, when she was little, and she refused to eat instant mashed potatoes. She knew the difference -- even if she didn't see you prepare them. She only liked real mashed potatoes. Hmmm... I wonder if she still has that aversion...?

PS: Who knew that a Najera could be so picky about ketchup. We all LOVE ketchup!! (Though I will agree that some tastes better than others, but I never turn my nose up at ketchup!)

Well, President Hanson will be really glad to hear this ketchup story. When I was in China, that is all they had at the fast food places like KFC and McD’s. We thought that was pretty amazing that no matter where you are in the world, Heinz is there for you! Dad also liked Heinz. It must be genetic. You go, Tommy!

I sent your blog entry over to Pres. Hansen and he wrote back that “kids always know best.”
